Here we are over a month later. Lots of things have happend: my computer has been fixed, I went to Thailand with my son for two weeks (too cool of a trip - we will be going back in June or July to show it to my husband)....
I am finally caught up with my work - so I went stumbling and found this cool site:
This site describes in detail how to dye yarn with Kool Aid. I always thought that "stuff", the Kool Aid was poison - the taste, the smell and the really bright colors. This site makes it clear to me : There is a use for Kool Aid and it is dying yarn - bright colors are great for yarn!!!!

Thanks so much for linking to me. I love the crazy fruity smell of Kool-Aid but it is definitely better for yarn and fiber than for drinking. Let me know if you try dyeing anything with Kool-Aid. I'd love to see your results.
I love to dye wool with koolaid for needle felting! I would never drink it either. It smells nice and isn't sticky when dying because you don't add sugar of course! Very easy, and you can blend colors in the pot. I heated it up a little, and slurp! the dye would suddenly suck into the wool, and I'd rinse, lay it out to dry. The kids love helping.
Thailand is MY dream trip with my two boys. It's a LONG way from Oregon though. I look forward to your photos.
